The NYAF New York Anime Festival Warp Up Report

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

The New York Anime Festival is over and what a great time it was. There was somethings I didn’t like about the con, but I still had a good time. This is the fifth and final con for the year, the next con is Katsucon in Washington D.C. this February. Each day, my sister and I took the train in, instead of staying near the city. That was because there is no good hotels near the convention center, the closet one was Hotel Pennsylvania, which is located near Penn Station. We stayed at the hotel in March 2007 for the IBS Radio convention; because of the poor quality, we are not planning to go back to hotel.Pictures of the con are already up, click here to see the pictures!

Of course, I can’t forget the friends who went to the con. If it wasn’t for them coming to the con, I would have left the con and never come back. I think its pretty much like that for most of the cons. Mostly everyone was there: Fred, Jon, Meredith, Louis, Jesse, Brian was there!
The Dealers Room was the place to be, actually, it was the only place to be. Luckily, there was a variety of different merchandise at different booths, which usually 1 out of 5 booths will have the same stuff as another one, especially at Otakon. I think there should have been more stuff going on, especially after 7:00pm. Most of the panels at the convention either did not draw me interest, or I wasn’t there at the time of a panel.

Compared to the Big Apple Anime Festival (BAAF) in 2002 and Anime Expo (2003) in New York City at Marriott Marquis, NYAF wasn’t as big and I believe that NYAF should be at the Marriott next year. (I compared it to BAAF and AE because it was the con in New York related to NYAF) Not only it was big, but there are other attractions outside of the hotel, which of course is Times Square. Of course, at the Javits Center where NYAF, there was nothing outside of the convention center, not even a variety of restaurants. The closest place to be near attractions is Times Square which is around a 10-15 block walk.

If there shall be another New York Anime Festival again next year, I won’t mind going again. However, I wish that the convention can be at the Marriott Marquis, which I mentioned, or at a different location near attractions; such as restaurants, hotels, and coffee shops where we can go to a place to sit down or hangout after the con is over.

False Fire Alarm at Five Towns

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

There was a false alarm today when the fire alarms at Five Towns College went off. According to my friend, a student set off the alarm. At the time I was leaving my post at WFTU, leaving hosts Dan and Justin on the air. As I was preparing to leave the campus, I put on the station. Then when I was pulling out the fire alarms were going off. So I ran inside and told them to put the station on auto pilot and leave the station until a clear signal is given. Shortly after, maintenance put the alarm till silent to investigate.

What was funny was that students were still walking in and around in the school while the fire alarms were going off. My sister, waiting in the car, was laughing how everyone is acting ‘normal’ and what Justin and Dan was saying on the radio. Justin and Dan went on the air again a few minutes after the evacuation.

Of course this moment made me remember the time when the fire alarms went off on WNBC last year on the 11 O’clock news with Sue and Chuck. Here is a clip.

In December 2005, there was another false alarm I was involved in which took place here at WRAJ Internet Radio offices at 3 in the morning. Many police officers and firefighters were here as carbon monoxide detectors were going off. In result, the batteries on the central panel for the detectors failed and was replaced the following weekend.

So what will be the next false alarm and how will it be?

My College Schedule: Fall 2007

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

Sorry everyone that I haven’t written in my blog for a month. The past month was nothing but hectic, but I’ll explain later.

I was able to survive the first week of college, which is basically one day. Thats right, four classes, all in one day, twice a week. Many people were like “You should be happy” or “that sucks.” Well, I’m on the suck side. Yea, its good not to be at school all week, but imagine all the work I have to get done. Basically, I hate the schedule, but I hope to get used to it.

I’m going to be at the school anyway on Mondays – Thursdays. I have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I’ll be arriving around 10:30-12:00 and work at the radio station. So you will be to catch me there on those days.
So here is my college schedule for the fall semester: (more…)

Considering a College Transfer

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

I might be considering to transfer to a different school for my senior year, which will make me leave Five Towns College by summer 2008. I just can’t handle some of the staff and professors there, that is making it difficult to get a better grade that I should. The past two semesters for me has been horrible for me because some of the professors did not have a great grading procedure or just didn’t teach right. I’ll be making my final decision sometime in December.
