So everyone has been coming up to me and asking about how is Windows 7. My answer “horrible, not as horrible as Vista.” And I always joke around “Did you know Windows 7 is really Windows 6.1.” It’s true, the 7 is believed to be the build code, which is 7000 in Beta, now its in 7600.16385.090713-1255. And technically, Windows 7 is still sitting on Windows Vista, such a flawed operating system. I would say that I would prefer 7 because it has more stability than Vista. (more…)
Well I had one since it ever came out and started using it like crazy lately, but now there is going to be another reason too use it. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am talking about the AppleTV. It seems that Apple is patenting of what could be the next version of the AppleTV, finally putting the system in full use. Though its not quite popular, the AppleTV is a powerful media computer (or device if you want to call it) that currently allows you to watch movies, tv shows, podcasts, and listen to music.
Today, I use the AppleTV more than watching TV on cable, and I currently have over 200 movies and over thousand of episodes of TV shows. Many people told me of how they thought the AppleTV was not that great, but once when I gave them the controls and show them the way how I manage my AppleTV, they views totally changed. Currently, I am planning to get more AppleTVs to sync with my iTunes on my main Mac throughout the house, and even in my room in Florida through a VPN setup (and it will work).
What it seems like is that Apple will be having a Mac Finder interface in addition to the AppleTV menus, giving the user a chance to use programs on Mac. Remember that the AppleTV is sitting on Tiger, 10.4. With one of the patent filed above, the controller will have a motion-sensor allowing users to point at the screen with a cursor, such as the Wii. Does this point to games, well if you can run an application like in 10.4, it is possible. And with the hit games on the iPod Touch and iPhone, there won’t be a problem for small developers to create games or other related software. I myself will be keeping track, heck there might be a Vidgle app on the AppleTV in the works. We are currently working on a iPhone app for Vidgle.
Don’t call me foolish, but when it comes to batteries forget about. I can complain for hours about how batteries are so untrustworthy. My 3 year old PowerBook G4 12″ laptop battery is having a charge issue, its a long story of what’s going on but I have a sense of what’s wrong. The old battery that I had up till 2006, which was recalled, was good, it sometimes lasted a good five hours if I had the backlight low and nothing else on (including wireless, Bluetooth, Audio, CD/DVD, etc.). And now, the battery that I had for two years has been acting funny now for the past few months. And as you see on top, thats right, a ten hour charge, but its not actually true. The battery doesn’t want to charge when in use, including sleep mode, which results the kernal reports to the OS that it would take 10 hours (in Mac OS, the charge time length variable can’t be any higher than 10 hours). Then out of no where, the battery thinks its fully charged, and when you use 16% of power from the battery, it will lose its charge. From my knowledge, it seems to be a dead cell. At this rate, I think I’m going to need to order a new battery. Also something that I ran into last night, it seems like I can’t burn CDs with this issue. I’m getting an error that I have never ran into before, which says that there is not enough power to power the laser to write onto the CD.
May be this is a sign for a new laptop?
I am waiting for the next operating system to come next year, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, until I get a new laptop. My current laptop will become a Final Cut Pro and audio production laptop so that podcast episodes on WRAJ and Vidgle can be produced on the field, which will mostly be used for the Con Goer. I was quite surprised of how many audio and video podcasts were using my laptop model to produce the shows. However, most of the podcasts have upgraded this year to a newer Mac laptop model.
We began upgrading to the newest Mac version of Mac OS, version 10.5, our known as Leopard. Its being installed on most of our Macs this week and will be installed on our necessary machines by the end of the week. So why there was a one month delayed of installing the new operating system? At WRAJ Internet Radio, we wait at least a month to install a new operating system that was recently released. We wait for the month for stability reports and to be aware of software that we have that might not work with the new operating system.
Leopard runs pretty good, as of know. We installed Leopard on a 12″ PowerBook G4 and runs very well. With the multitasking of Spaces, the computer still runs well with only 4 spaces running. Thankfully, the transparency of the windows and menu bar is not enabled on our PowerPCs computers, which we believed that could of slowed the computer down dynamically. We did notice some loopholes of the OS installer installing Front Row, which is pretty uncessary of being installed because there is no remote control. There are sometimes that the screen turns off on the 12″ PowerBook G4. We believed that its the low memory of the video card, or its something that the Intel Chips can perform better than the PowerPC processor.
We’ll be installing the new OS on a MacPro, the previous iMacs models, and a Mac Mini.
On the Windows side, we are still using Windows XP. I see no chances of going to Vista for most of our systems for a while, because software that we have don’t run on Vista correctly, including our station’s broadcast software.
Besides the troubled RIAA and CRB problems bothering my life with WRAJ, I did attend the IBS conference in New York City last weekend. Friday was the fun day, while Saturday was the boring day.
I got into the conference a few minutes late Friday because of parking issues I had the train station. Later, I got into interesting conversations with several other students from different colleges. I stayed at the conference till 6 until I left to go out to eat. I did stay at the same hotel the conference was held that night, and Saturday night as well.
No one from Five Towns went Saturday, besides my friend Rob. I was in several panels on Saturday, After attending several panels on Saturday, I meet up with my sister Jen and friends, Jim and Fred. We went to Rockefeller Plaza later that night and purchased ‘Sorry’ at Toys ‘R Us in Times Square (Why did we get it, I don’t know). Sunday morning, Jim and I went to Top of the Rock and what a great view!
Another Friday is here at a last, and for tonight’s hangout we are going to the diner tonight; from the demands of Jimmy and I. If anybody has a problem with that, then don’t hang out this evening.
Anyways, I have finally recieved confirmation of some panels I will be in for the IBS convention. I will be in the panel for Podcasting, and Using computers at your station/website creation. I hope to have pictures of the trip posted in the photo gallery on this site.
I am planning to go to the Apple Developers Conference in June in San Francisco. I am unsure if I want to go, but I think I will be going.
